The Caribbean 2020 Plan

Delivered at the 2017 Caribbean-Central American Action (CCAA), CARIBBEAN 2020 IMPLEMENTING H.R. 4939: FROM VISION TO ENGAGEMENT conference at the Rayburn House Office Building. The event served as the first in an ongoing effort to dialogue on U.S.-Caribbean relations.

This presentation explores the potential for framing the implementation of the Caribbean 2020 Plan within the context of the health and well-being of the Caribbean people.

Caribbean 2020: A Multi-Year Strategy To Increase the Security, Prosperity, and Well-Being of the People of the United States and the Caribbean

The U.S. Department of State, in coordination with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), submitted a multi-year Caribbean strategy to Congress on June 19 that establishes a framework for enhancing the security and prosperity of the United States and its Caribbean partners. Considered the “third border” of the United States, the Caribbean is a vital part of our efforts to counter organized crime and illicit trafficking, support democracy throughout the Western hemisphere, strengthen energy security, and create jobs through increased trade and investment.

Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA)

CCAA facilitates trade and investment to improve the policy and regulatory environments for business at the local, regional, and international levels. Programs focus areas include issues such as energy security, trade facilitation, transportation, financial services, disaster mitigation, and information technology.
