The Best Me – Blunt Truth Tour: Brookland Middle School
June 29, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT
Violence is having a devastating impact on many communities across the United States, and Washington, DC is no different. In partnership with the AmeriHealth Caritas-DC, Trident House International, LLC was contracted to develop an integrated violence prevention program, combining The Blunt Truth Tour and AmeriHealth-DC Best Me youth development programming. The Blunt Truth Tour has been implemented in dozens of schools around the United States, impacting thousands of youth. This partnership is the first time the Tour is being combined with specific youth development programming, in an attempt to build sustained change at the community level.
The program combines youth engagement through music, video skits, truth telling, and facilitated youth development activities that foster behavioral change in youth. The topics include:
- Substance Use
- Respect/Morals
- Bullying
- Safe Sex
- Domestic Violence

“Streetz Blunt Truth Tour”
With the rash of violence rampant among our youth today in schools, throughout our neighborhoods, and social media platforms, 20-year old radio host, DJ Young Music, a 2015 high school honor graduate and the youngest DJ to have a syndicated radio mix show, has launched his “Streetz Blunt Truth Tour” under his nonprofit organization Streetz Stop the Violence Foundation. The purpose of the tour is to partner with high schools and colleges to discuss the best practices for violence prevention among youth while spreading peace, love, and understanding through music. Young established the youth-centered organization starting in part as a response to the murder of his friend and up-and-coming DC rapper Douglas “Swipey” Brooks.
