Background

  • Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are stressful and traumatic experiences and are strongly related to a wide range of health problems, including substance abuse, throughout the lifespan.
  • Over time, and often during adolescence, the child adopts negative coping mechanisms, such as substance use.

Program Description

Workshops are built around two key components. First, facilitated group education around 10 core skills recommended by the American Psychological Association (APA) for developing resilience. Second, the introduction of art as a meditative coping tool.

Trident uses this approach with children and adults at risk or suffering from behavioral health challenges, as a means to enhance their resiliency skills and inoculate them against future unhealthy behaviors. Competency is defined by developing skills around Connectedness, Empathy, Routine, Imagination, Positivity, Self-Love, Goals, Perspective, Self-Discovery, and Change. #ZenTen
